Use it decently, with respect for others. Never do anything you or someone else doesn’t want.

New in the app: Hoekedex Story

One night, six endings, your story

A retro RPG in 80s neon: a mystery on campus, a shadowy figure on the square and one night that changes everything. From the last lecture to the bar where it all began. You play it solo, at your own pace.

  • The Story menu, with your campus fame
  • Create your own character
  • Chapter 1: the last lecture
  • Higher or Lower against a bot
  • The flirt battle, turn by turn
  • Take a taxi into the nightlife
  • Blackjack at the casino, with play chips
  • An ending and a new Story card
  • The Monday after
  • Story cards in your Dex
  • Your character, your choices

Pick your name, skin, hair, clothes and style, and play on one of three difficulties. Who you help, what you drink and who you bring along: it all counts.

  • 6 chapters, 6 endings

From the lecture hall to the neon bar. The night can end in six ways, and one ending is secret.

    1. Perfect night
    2. Unexpected click
    3. From rivals to…
    4. The one that got away
    5. Friendship above all
    6. Secret ending

And after that, it’s still Monday: an epilogue about what your choices did.

  • Invisible → Legend

You start as a newcomer nobody knows. Help people, win games and collect pins: the better known you get, the more doors open. Every Story card gives your next story a head start.

    1. Invisible
    2. Familiar face
    3. Good company
    4. Popular
    5. Legend
  • Minigames and a flirt battle

Play minigames against bots that get properly sharp on Hard. Then comes the flirt battle: turn-based, with four kinds of moves.

    3. Club Ultraviolet
    4. Rooftop party at the Lichttoren
    5. The Casino

The casino uses play chips you earn in the game. Not for sale, never real money. 18+.

  • Story cards in your Dex

The game

Catch. Log. Evolve. Collect.

Every date, crush or holiday fling becomes a card that grows with what you two go through together. The further you get, the more XP.

  1. STEP 01

    Catch

Make a card with a photo, vibe and star sign, and give five stats with pixel hearts. Throw in the green for a perfect catch.

  2. STEP 02

    Log moments

A message, a date, a kiss: every moment earns XP. From 10 XP for a message to 5,000 for a relationship.

  3. STEP 03

    Evolve

From Spotted to Relationship: six stages, and every step up gives bonus XP. A relationship is the mega evolution.

  4. STEP 04

    Collect

Your dex fills up. Climb trainer levels, do three missions every day, build streaks and unlock 27 achievements.

Catch

Five stats, one card

Charm, Spark, Kiss skill, Humor and Mystery: drag the pixel heart along the bar. The stats decide the rarity. Fill in the card properly, with a photo, notes and where you met, and you get up to 6 bonus points.

What is a moment worth? XP per time

Tap a moment: the card gets XP and evolves.

New catch form: five stat bars with a pixel heart as the slider and the five rarities from Common to Ultra Legendary.
Robin’s card, Epic, with the Log a moment grid (Message, Match, Hug, Gift, Kiss, Date) and the notice Achievement: First catch.

Evolve & collect

From Spotted to mega evolution

Every card grows with what you go through together. A first message turns it into Contact, a kiss into Kissed, and a relationship is the mega evolution. Stay together and you earn loyalty XP every month.

  1. Spotted
  2. Contact +100
  3. Kissed +250
  4. Date +500
  5. Intimate +800
  6. Relationship +1.500
  • Star signs

Enter a birthday and the card gets a star sign plus a match with yours: from ‘Exciting, but tricky’ to ‘Written in the stars’.

  • Your type

Your profile draws a pixel radar of the average stats of your cards. See at a glance who you fall for.

  • Missions, streaks and achievements

Three new missions every day, a bonus for days in a row and 27 achievements to unlock.

Lower screen of the profile: counters for catches, relationships, streak and achievements, and the Your type radar.
Your profile: your type as a pixel radar

Rarity

The rarer, the more XP

Every card gets a rarity from its stats: the average of Charm, Spark, Kiss skill and Humor, plus up to 6 points for a well-filled card. Every rarity has its own pixel border, shine and music.

  • Common

    under 60100 XP
  • Rare

    from 60300 XP
  • Epic

    from 75750 XP
  • Legendary

    from 851.500 XP
  • Ultra Legendary

    from 954.000 XP

Rarity is the base

Rarity decides what a card is worth at least: from 100 XP for Common to 4,000 for Ultra Legendary.

Everything you log adds up

Moments, evolution bonus, moves and a perfect catch are added on top. A relationship earns 120 loyalty XP every month.

Fair play

The same moment earns XP at most 3× a day, and the example cards don’t count towards your score.

Night Camera

A disposable camera for one night

A disposable camera: solo, with your group or for a whole party. You only see what was shot once it’s developed.

  • Solo

Your own disposable camera: 15 photos a day, developed the next morning.

Your photos stay on this phone. Nothing is stored on a server.

  • Group

Everyone in the group gets a roll of 10, 15 or 24 flash photos for one night, with filters. Nobody sees them straight away: they develop the next morning, or at the end of the night. Then your phones share them directly with each other.

  • Party Roll

One roll for a whole party. Guests join with a QR code; the photos only appear when the roll is full or the party’s over.

    • You start the party and show the QR code. Guests join on their own phone: just a name, no friendship or group needed.
    • Everyone shoots on the same roll: “143 of 250”. Each guest has their own maximum, so nobody uses up the whole roll.
    • Nobody sees the photos until the roll is full or the party’s over. Then you all see them together, or you see them first: you choose when you start.
    • Photos travel encrypted from phone to the host. Nothing is stored on a server.

Shared photos get a small hoekedex.net watermark.

How it works

Playing together, with no server watching

Hoekedex has no central server holding your data. So how do friends, chat and groups work? Like this:

  • Adding friends

Scan each other’s QR code or send an invite link. If you’ve both scanned each other, you’re friends straight away; otherwise the other person chooses Accept or Decline. With the verification code (six groups of four digits) you check in person that you’re really talking to them.

    compare the verification code

  • Chat & snaps

Messages are end-to-end encrypted and go straight from phone to phone. If your friend is offline, a message waits encrypted on the relay for up to 24 hours, and then it’s gone. A snap can be viewed once.

    offline: waits max. 24 hours

  • Groups

A group doesn’t live on a server but on the members’ own phones: chat, challenges and leaderboard. Every change is signed by whoever makes it and goes encrypted to all members, including members who aren’t your friends. If someone was offline, the phones fill in the gaps with each other later.

    every change signed

  • Game rooms

One person makes a room, the rest scan the QR code and play along on their own phone. You don’t need to be friends: in the room you only see each other as a name and colour. The room only exists on the phone of whoever made it, and afterwards everything is gone.

    afterwards everything is gone

  • Night Camera

The photos stay on the group’s phones. After developing, your phones send them straight to each other, encrypted. If that doesn’t work, the relay helps live, without storing anything.

    never on a server

  • Notifications

Only if you switch them on. A notification only says that something is waiting for you, never what or from whom. Apple or Google only see that a notification was sent. On iPhone it works when Hoekedex is on your home screen (iOS 16.4 or newer).

    “something is waiting for you”

  • Backup

Everything lives on your phone, so make a backup now and then: an encrypted file with your own password, in your own iCloud or Google Drive. On a new phone you restore it, and your friends and groups recognise you straight away.

    your file, your password

Radar

Two radars, both on your terms

Both stay off until you switch them on. Your exact location never goes to our server.

Everyone nearby

See who around you also has the radar on, and wave. If you both wave, you’re friends.

Example, no real people.

MoreFewer
  • With a timer from 15 minutes to 2 hours. After that it switches off by itself.
  • Choose Close by (± 50 m) or Area (± 1 km). Others only see your name, level, colour and your rarest rarity.
  • Never tracked live: only a rough square, updated while the app is open. Close the app and you stay at that last spot until the timer ends.
  • Fewer than 3 others nearby? Then you see nobody and nobody sees you.

Friend radar

Like Find My, but private: you choose which friends or which holiday group you share your location with, and for how long.

Example, no real people.

MoreFewer
  • Per person Exactly or Roughly (± 1 km), from an hour to ‘always’, with a weekly reminder.
  • End-to-end encrypted. Only your last location, never a history.
  • Starting it asks for your PIN, Face ID or fingerprint.
  • Always see who sees you (‘Who sees me?’), and go invisible with one tap (‘Hide me now’).
  • Your location only updates while the app is open, never in the background.

Use the radar wisely

  • Only switch it on if you want to be found, and switch it off again when you’re done.
  • Someone doesn’t wave back? That’s an answer too. Don’t go looking for them, following them or approaching them.
  • Only share your location with people you trust, and never ask anyone to share theirs if they don’t want to.
  • Meeting up? Pick a busy, public place and let a friend know where you are.
  • Someone crosses a line: block and report them. If you’re in danger, call 112.

More in the guidelines

Privacy

No account. No database.Your cards live on your phone.

Hoekedex pushes the boundaries, but we don’t play games with your data.

There’s no database behind it: everything lives locally on your own phone and nothing is stored on our servers. The only server is a relay that passes on encrypted messages. If your friend is offline, the relay holds such a message in memory for 24 hours at most, never on disk, and then it’s gone. It can’t read it. The one exception: if you switch on notifications, the relay remembers your phone’s notification address until you switch them off again.

Your phone

Cards, photos, XP, friends and your keys. Stored encrypted with the app lock.

The relay

Passes on sealed envelopes. Can’t open them and writes nothing to disk.

The relay only sees:

· · ·

Your friend

Only that phone has the key to open your message.

Your friend reads:

· · ·

Try it yourself. This demo really encrypts, but only in your own browser: nothing goes over the internet.

  • No account

Your phone makes its own key pair on first launch. No email, no phone number, no password with us.

  • Everything on your device

Cards, photos, notes and XP only live on your phone. We have no database, so nothing to sell or hand over.

  • End-to-end encrypted

Messages, groups, locations and photos are locked with keys that only your phones have.

  • A relay with no memory

If your friend is offline, an envelope waits in the relay’s memory for 24 hours at most and then disappears. Never on disk.

  • App lock with Face ID

Put a PIN on the app and, if you like, open it with Face ID or your fingerprint. That works through a passkey: the keys stay on your phone.

  • Your backup, your call

An encrypted .hoekedex file with your own password, for iCloud Drive, Google Drive or Files.

  • Silent notifications

Notifications only say that something is waiting. The relay then only knows your phone’s notification address, for as long as you have notifications on.

  • No trackers

No ads, no analytics, no trackers. Not in the app, and not on this website either.

To be honest

MoreFewer
  • We can’t stop screenshots of chats, snaps and photos. Only send what you’d be happy to show.
  • Lost is lost: without a backup we can’t get your cards back. We never had them.
  • With a direct connection your phones see each other’s IP address. That’s how peer-to-peer works. To set it up we only use our own relay, no other party.
  • The relay sees when you’re connected and between which random IDs an envelope travels, but never what’s inside.

With a wink

Don’t take it too seriously

Hoekedex was made as a joke: a game about dating, not a contest and not a yardstick for people. A few things we do take seriously.

  • It’s a game

XP for a kiss, a rarity for your crush: it’s just for fun. Nobody is a card, and nobody has to score high.

  • Nothing is a must

Just skip a challenge, dare or sip. ‘No’ is always good enough, for you and for the other person.

  • Consent first

For everything you do together, and for every photo you take or send. In doubt? Then don’t.

  • Respect, and 18+

Hoekedex is for adults. Talk about others the way you’d want to be talked about, and keep your cards to yourself.

Play it with a smile and use it decently. The rest is in the guidelines.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Hoekedex safe?

Hoekedex has no accounts and no database. Your cards, photos and notes only live on your phone. Messages between friends are end-to-end encrypted and go through a relay that stores nothing. With the app lock you put a PIN on the app, optionally with Face ID or your fingerprint.

What we can’t stop: someone taking a screenshot, or someone else getting hold of your unlocked phone. So switch on the app lock.

What if I lose my phone?

That’s what the backup is for: an encrypted .hoekedex file with your own password, in iCloud Drive, Google Drive or Files. On a new phone you restore it, and your friends and groups recognise you straight away.

No backup? Then your cards are gone. We don’t have a copy, and that’s exactly the point.

Can others see my cards?

No. Your cards never leave your phone, except in your own encrypted backup. What others can see:

  • Friends: your name, colour and star sign, and whether you’re online.
  • Group members: your messages, challenges, XP and Night Camera photos in that group.
  • People nearby, only if you switch on the radar: your name, level, colour and your rarest rarity.
  • Fellow players in a game room: your name and colour, for as long as the game lasts.
How do I get it on my phone?

On Android you download the app as an APK file. On iPhone you add Hoekedex to your home screen through Safari. Everywhere you can also play right away in your browser. All the steps are under Download. The App Store and Google Play versions come later.

Why is it 18+?

Hoekedex is about dating, kissing and sex, and many group games can be played with drinks. That’s not for minors. You also only add adults.

Do I have to drink or do spicy stuff?

No. Every game works without drinks, water always counts, and you can skip any question or dare. Extreme is off by default. Hoekedex was made with a wink: never do anything you or someone else doesn’t want.

Is it OK to put other people in an app?

Your cards are your own diary: they only live on your phone and nobody else sees them. That’s personal use. Do treat it with care, though: don’t share someone else’s photos or details without consent. Also read the guidelines.

Can I block someone?

Yes. Your phone then throws away everything that person sends, the relay passes nothing on and you no longer see each other online or on the radar. You can always leave a group. Report abuse at info@hoekedex.net.

Does it cost money?

No. Hoekedex is free and without ads. Extra themes, the Couples Pack and the Summer Pass come later, as one-time purchases. There are no subscriptions.

Why is there a watermark on my photos?

Photos you save or share from a group night or Party Roll get a small hoekedex.net watermark in the white border.

Do my photos go to a server?

No. Photos travel encrypted from phone to phone through the relay, which never stores them. If the host of a Party Roll is offline, they wait on your own phone. You can always remove your own photos again.

Why don’t I see a special?

A special only shows up during its season, and you need internet then: the date comes from our server, not from your phone. King’s Day is only in the Netherlands, and Sinterklaas only in the Netherlands and Belgium.

What is ‘News and specials’?

A few times a year, a notification that a Holiday Special is starting. Never ads, never from others. Off until you turn it on.

Ready for your first catch?

Free, no account, and started in a few seconds.
